From Publishers Weekly
Jesus' teachings were not meant to be spoken only on Sunday, writes Steward, CEO of World Wide Technology Inc., the world's largest African-American-owned company. Rather, those teachings were meant to be implemented everywhere, including the workplace. In this book, Steward shares 52 biblical principles in short, easy-to-read chapters that can be digested once a week for a full year or devoured in one sitting. Steward draws heavily on his own knowledge of building a high-tech company from the ground up, and also his corporate experiences at FedEx and Union Pacific. He has a real knack for helping readers see how biblical principles relate to those experiences and to contemporary business issues. Even the trendy notion of "branding" is placed thoughtfully with a relevant Scripture (Matthew 12:33: "Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit."). Christian businesspeople who want a solid introduction to biblical ethics in the workplace will particularly enjoy his fine chapters on accountability, enthusiasm, customer satisfaction and networking. This book was brought to my attention during a lunch meeting that was supposed to focus on the business at hand. Instead of discussing the events of the day and how it related to our business together we spoke about God, the desire to do good and serve others. It was an unexpected and unconventional conversation, especially in today's business climate but one I was happy to participate in. Towards the end of our conversation I was asked if I had ever read this book as it seemed my beliefs were the same. I responded no, but said I would read it. I downloaded the book right after the meeting and started to read it, never leaving my hotel room until it was finished. In these writings I found clarity, inspiration and purpose. This book has had a profound effect on me, validating my own beliefs and providing a simple and clear manual for how to conduct my business life. I highly recommend anyone looking to incorporate their Spiritual beliefs into their business life take the time to read this wonderful book and it's my belief that you and the world will be better for it.
I haven't finished the book but I can say I actually have this deep desire to follow along with Mr. Steward's life lessons. Mr. Steward's spiritual business experiences through God's directional Word is what I need in this time of my life. I'm so glad I visited the IMO'S Pizza on Hampton at highway 40/64 in St. Louis, MO that particular day. To GOD be the glory I got wind of this book's existance. So Oh Heavenly FATHER order my steps and I will continue to praise YOU in the hallway until the door/gate swings open in my life. AMEN!!!
Wow, I wish I had seen this book earlier. Very pertinent information, extremely relevant to today's world. Quick read, short chapters with concentrated lesson. Great format, great information.
Got to hand it it to Mr. Steward, this is a great book for young and old alike. In fact, it is something that would appeal to millennials. Short chapters and worthy dialogue. Crisp writing that comes to a point that gets you thinking about your REAL faith in Christ. Not a book for pretenders.
This book was amazing. It is very encouraging to read about a black Christian entrepreneur who resides in my hometown, St. Louis. This book is a must read if you are interested in Jesus being the anchor of your business. No Christian business owner should go without out this book!!! I totally recommend.
One of the best books I have read. Dave Stewart is an amazing man and his values are next to none in business. Just goes to show that good people with faith and being of service to others as your primary goal will always serve everyone.
I heard great things about this book and became interested in it for my fiance who is an entrepreneur. He is not a reader, but he LOVED this book. He read this book in 3 days; considering his busy schedule, that is remarkable and shows that it must have been a great read.
The book was a very nice read. Although a couple didn't quite click to me, most of the Bible principles that were referenced were great! I will definitely recommend this book to new entrepreneurs.
