The premise is that when you're in the middle of a divorce, the LAST thing the unhappy couple needs is the additional trauma of a adversarial process driven by lawyers — who, by training and definition, are oriented towards getting the most blood out of the other person. Instead, why not find a way to come to a reasonable agreement with your partner? If you can do that, you'll both be happier with the result, and save a lot of money and stress.I've used this book more than once, and its an excellent guide. Clear instructions about the forms to fill out, timing, and requirements. Level-headed explanations of the laws in question, and what they are designed to do, and whom to protect.I've also used the telephone support services (hourly, fee-based) to make sure all was in order, and the people there are great. Even if you ultimately decide to hire a lawyer and/or go to court to fight it out, this book will help you understand the law, what's negotiable, and what the state (i.e. a judge) considers its interest in your case. Highly recommended.
It is probably to worst time to sell something to someone : when one is going through what in most cases is one of the worst emotional events in life. The book is decent but like another reviewer stated, it jumps back and forth with references. But to me, the worst part was HOW MANY TIMES Mr. Sherman sells his services, his books, his software. He clearly has forgotten the balance between overselling his other services and politely recommending his services. Page after page after page it's there!! I have never seen an author so eager to sell his services! The book is also filled with repetitious content, rehashed in different ways in different parts of the book. I am instead reading the Divorce and Money (from NOLO) that I ordered with this book and have ordered two more books from NOLO (thanks to a special promo!): Nolo's Essential Guide to Divorce and Nolo's, A Judge's Guide to Divorce (you can tell I like books from Nolo!). I found Mr. Sherman's book to also contain a fair bit of fluff, which I don't find in the other book I am reading. What could have been a great book is spoiled by the above mentioned oddities. Notwithstanding the above, it's an easy to understand book.
The product was as advertised, meaning it was received in the described condition and well in advance of the anticipated date. I ordered this item for my brother and once he got into it, he saw that it was a 2001 version, not "current" as described, unless current meant in respect to 2001. The forms and other information is outdated and cannot be used except for being out on a bookshelf somewhere. Next time, I make an order, I will definitely make sure that I read enough of the particulars. I may order from this seller again but I will make sure that I read EVERY description.

This may be short on letting you know that. I'm a lawyer that advocates client knowledge and participation. With that in mind, this is a great tool for getting the client up to speed.
This is a step-by-step how to guide that will show you which documents to use and how to wade through the maze of divorce forms in California. Even if you are not doing your own divorce learning what is required to get a divorce will save you both time and money on your divorce. The forms have many changes annually, so be sure to get the newest edition.

So I got this book so I could save a little money and file all the paperwork myself.You know what? After reading and re-reading and scratching my head at all the legalese I finally admitted defeat, went to one of those "legal assistance centers" and threw a few hundred bucks at them.If you can make heads or tails of the legal jargon and stipulations and gobbledegook, more power to you. I'm sure this book is very helpful for those who can understand how lawyers think.Me, I'm sticking to computers!

I help them put away the boxing gloves, work things out fairly and this book has EVERYTHING you need, including forms, printed and on the accompanying CD, that you need to do it yourself. Why pay your lawyer to fight her lawyer? They both win and you both lose, tons!!! Is the resentment worth it??? THIS BOOK IS !!! (worth it)
