He moved to Florida and began working as the general manager for Aquarium Supply, a tropical fish, goldfish, and koi wholesaler, and then opened his own pet shop. Patricia Bartlett grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and began keeping fish at age 10. She has journeyed to Costa Rica and Peru to net and write about angelfish, discus, and knife fish. I have 4 large natural bottom ponds and this book has nothing but caring for these fish in artificial ponds. Maybe I just didn't research this book well enough, but it does have a good deal of understandable information in it.
i have kept a koi pond for many years. found so much advice i did not agree with. the pond cleaning advice would have kept me from ever enjoying this hobby. few pictures.
Super information. Clear info, easy to understand. I bought this book before I had my 3,000 gal. pond built. It really helped me understand what type/kind of filtration I would need/want.I still look things up, now 3 years into the hobby of keeping a pond with great fish!
I usually like the Dummies books but this one wasn't what I was looking for. There was too much focus on things like pond design and building and not enough on caring for koi, which is what I needed. Fortunately, Amazon has a terrific return policy so they rate 5 stars.
It has a lot of practical information but I have had fish since 1965, so it was limited as far as new information for me. It is a good little book, but not my favorite or even in my top 2. For the new koi owner it would be very helpful to show basic requirement for healthy koi living standards. In the right bginners hands it could save them from making expensive mistakes, so there is a nitch for this book. :-)
Excellent source of information for beginners. Covers the obvious and also the important but most often overlooked aspects of Koi. Could use more descriptions on the color varieties, but there are other books for that. If you want to know what's involved in keeping Koi, this should be your first book.
Needed something basic for my spouse. Good reference. Hopefully we can keep our koi happy.
Not bad. We are planning an indoor koi pond and there is a lot of good info in this book.
